Payal Shankar Seeks Vigilance Inquiry Into Korata-Chanaka Barrage Works
Shankar inspected sections of the barrage canals that had suffered damage at several places: Reports

ADILABAD: Adilabad BJP MLA Payal Shankar on Saturday demanded a vigilance inquiry into the construction of the Korata-Chanaka barrage, alleging that canals had been damaged due to poor-quality work and could not be used in future.
Shankar inspected sections of the barrage canals that had suffered damage at several places. Speaking to the media after the inspection, he said it was unfortunate that the canals, which had not been used because the barrage was incomplete, had already been damaged, with the canal linings falling apart.
He alleged that poor-quality canal construction and lack of supervision had caused losses to the government exchequer. He demanded a vigilance inquiry into the barrage works, tenders, estimates and release of funds.
Shankar said political leaders who had played a role in the construction of the project should also be covered by the inquiry. He described the barrage as a structure that had failed to serve its purpose despite an expenditure of `1,500 crore. The project was intended to provide irrigation to 50,000 acres, he said.
Shankar also criticised BRS leaders for organising a Rythu Garjana programme, alleging that they had done little for farmers while in power. He questioned BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao and K. Kavitha over their alleged opposition to proposals for a tribal university, an industrial park and an airport in Adilabad.
He further alleged that K.T. Rama Rao, T. Harish Rao and former chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had diverted funds from the Adilabad market committee to their respective Assembly constituencies, neglecting the district's development.
Shankar said people in Adilabad were aware of the BRS and TRS parties' record on farmers' welfare. He alleged that the brother and sister were visiting the district again to mislead people.
BJP senior leaders Jogu Ravi, Raghupathi, Srikanth Posalu, Shiva Goud, Surya Kiraan, Bhuma Reddy, Surjan and Satish Yadav were present.
