Patients Shifted as Godavari Rises in Mancherial

Mancherial collector Kumar Deepak instructed police and other officials to maintain bandobast as Godavari levels continued to rise, and to shift residents in low-lying areas of Mancherial town to safety.

Adilabad: Mancherial district officials on Thursday shifted 179 patients, including lactating women and newborns, from the Mother and Child Healthcare Centre located on the banks of the Godavari to the district headquarters hospital and private facilities for safety in Mancherial.

The precautionary move was taken to prevent untoward incidents, as the hospital premises were inundated in past years when floodwater was released downstream or when backflow from the Godavari entered the facility.

Mancherial collector Kumar Deepak visited the hospital and personally supervised the transfer of patients to safer locations. He also inspected the Sripada Yellampalli project following heavy inflows from upstream areas and reviewed the situation with irrigation officials.

The collector instructed police and other officials to maintain bandobast as Godavari levels continued to rise, and to shift residents in low-lying areas of Mancherial town to safety.

7 rescued after 28-hour op at Upper Manair

Karimnagar: A dramatic 28-hour rescue successfully ended on Thursday afternoon after seven people trapped by floodwaters near Upper Manair Dam (UMD) were rescued at Narmala in Gambhiraopet mandal of Rajanna Sircilla district.

The operation, which began at 10 am on Wednesday and concluded at 2 pm Thursday, was coordinated by multiple agencies under the supervision of collector Sandeep Kumar Jha and superintendent of police Mahesh B. Gite.

Heavy rain caused the UMD reservoir to overflow, submerging roads and leaving farmers and shepherds stranded. In a tragic incident, a shepherd, Pampukadi Nagaiah, 45, of Narmala, was swept away while attempting to cross the flooded road. A search for him is on.

The seven trapped individuals — Jangam Swamy, Pitla Swamy, Pitla Mahesh, Pitla Narsimlu, Dhanaboina Swamy, Bise Pradeep and Bise Chaya — were located on the opposite side of the reservoir. Collector Jha and SP Gite camped at the site from Wednesday afternoon until early Thursday morning, coordinating efforts.

To provide immediate help, officials used a drone to deliver food and supplies to the stranded group. The rescue was completed on Thursday when an army helicopter from Hakimpet airlifted five of them, while the remaining two were brought to safety by other means.

In Lingannapet village, the NDRF rescued a man named Praveen, who was trapped in a stream. In Yellareddypet village, farmer Devaiah was saved after being stranded in the Manair River, thanks to joint efforts by the DDRF and SDRF.
