Passport Office Plans Summer Drive
A normal passport is dispatched within seven working days once police verification is cleared, while Tatkal passports are issued in three days after verification: Snehaja Jonnalagadda
HYDERABAD: The Regional Passport Office (RPO), Hyderabad, will conduct a special drive on May 9 across all five Passport Seva Kendras in the city. As part of the initiative, 4,000 normal appointments will be released to ease the surge in demand during the summer holidays. Appointments will open on the official website from Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Snehaja Jonnalagadda, RPO Hyderabad, told the press that a normal passport is dispatched within seven working days once police verification is cleared, while Tatkal passports are issued in three days after verification.
She added that from May 4 onwards, the daily capacity at Karimnagar will rise to 400 applications, up from the current 220. In Hyderabad, the ongoing special adalats are drawing strong public response. “People can call us on 040-27715333 or WhatsApp 8121401532 to get answers to their queries,” she said.
Jonnalagadda stressed that all passports are dispatched only by speed post. “No personal handover is entertained,” she clarified. She also noted that applicants facing harassment during police verification may lodge complaints with the special branch. One such case, involving a demand for cash, is under investigation.
For international travel, she reminded applicants that passports must be valid for at least six months. Lost passports should be reported immediately at a police station or Mee Seva centre.
She further explained that bedridden applicants must visit the passport office, as home processing is not permitted. However, in cases of medical emergencies or death in the immediate family, passports are issued the same day.
The RPO Hyderabad, which operates five PSKs and 14 POPSKs across Telangana, currently processes an average of 4,500 applications daily. Applicants are advised to apply online at passportindia.gov.in.
