ADILABAD: Major political parties have begun searching for winning candidates to field in the upcoming local body elections. The parties are planning to show their strength by winning a majority of seats in the polls. According to sources, the district BJP unit is in touch with a senior BRS leader, who previously served as a mandal president and is attempting to bring him into the BJP so that he can be fielded in the Bhoraj mandal.
Similarly, Congress leaders are trying their best to get another BRS senior leader into the party so that he can be fielded from another ZPTC seat in the Adilabad assembly constituency. Congress, the BJP, and the BRS are searching for strong candidates from the opposing parties where they are weak in organisational terms and do not have strong candidates.
The BJP is attempting to secure a majority of ZPTC seats by leveraging its sitting MLAs, particularly Payal Shankar of Adilabad, Aleti Maheshwar Reddy of Nirmal, Ramarao Patel of Mudhole, and Palvai Harish Babu of Sirpur (T), in their respective areas.
Congress, BJP, and BRS are also preparing an action plan to win the zilla parishad chairman posts. BRS won the ZP chairman posts of Nirmal, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, and Mancherial in the last local body elections. The BJP put up a tough fight against the BRS for the chairman post of Adilabad Zilla Parishad.
Congress leader Vinod, a resident of Ankoli village in Adilabad rural mandal, said that young people are showing great interest in contesting elections for local bodies, and they have already started conducting a mouth campaign in their respective villages. He said the reservations for BCs will decide the fate of candidates aspiring to contest in the local body elections.
