Parents Abandon Their Kid Daughters at Police Station in Karimnagar, Counselled

The sight of the weeping children moved everyone present at the police station

KARIMNAGAR: In a shocking incident, a husband and wife abandoned their two young daughters at the LMD Police Station in Karimnagar on Monday evening following a bitter argument.

The couple, identified as Ravi Kumar, a shop owner from Alganuru village, and Lalitha, a nursing student from Nizamabad, left their children aged nine and six at the police station, telling the officers that they no longer wanted to take care of them.

According to sub-inspector Syed Anwar, the couple had a love marriage 11 years ago. However, their relationship became strained recently due to Ravi Kumar’s addiction to alcohol and frequent domestic fights. Vexed by the constant trouble, Lalitha had been living with her parents for the past three months.

On Monday evening, the couple reached the police station with their children while arguing. They continued their fight in front of the officers. In a moment of anger, Lalitha removed her mangalsutra and toe rings, placed them in a piece of paper, and left them with their children before walking away.

Shortly after, Ravi Kumar also left the police station, leaving the children. The two young girls, left alone, began to cry after they saw their parents going away one after another. The sight of the weeping children moved everyone present at the police station.

Sub-inspector Anwar reached out to both parents and brought them back to the police station for a long counselling session. He strictly warned them that abandoning children is not only a crime but also an inhuman act. He explained that while disagreements between adults are common, children should not have to suffer for their parents' mistakes.

Despite the counselling, the parents did not take their children home. Police then contacted the children's grandmother (Ravi Kumar’s mother). After verifying details, the officers safely handed over the two girls to her care.

Police are continuing to monitor the situation.
