Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Mogilaiah said he was deeply hurt to see posters pasted over artwork, leaving it looking unsightly.

Hyderabad: Disheartened by the sight of posters defacing artwork near the LB Nagar police station, renowned folk musical artiste and Padma Shri awardee Darshanam Mogilaiah on Wednesday took it upon himself to clean the area.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Mogilaiah said he was deeply hurt to see posters pasted over artwork, leaving it looking unsightly.

The state government had honoured him by recognising his talent and provided him space in artworks on flyovers at LB Nagar, Begumpet and Secunderabad, he said.

“While I was travelling from Turkayamjal to LB Nagar by bus, I saw my defaced mural, which looked ugly. In addition, there are gutka and pan stains on it. Without a second thought, I cleared it by myself," he

said.

People in large numbers gathered at the flyover as the folk musical artiste started clearing the posters and cleaning the pan stains on the pillar.

“I requested everyone not to damage the beauty of the artwork and asked them to ensure its cleanliness,” he said. The video of Mogilaiah clearing and cleaning the pillar went viral on

social media on Wednesday, with many netizens criticising the civic department for neglecting the artworks, which have been taken up by spending crores of rupees.
