Owaisi Slams Malegaon Blast Acquittals

Owaisi slams acquittal in Malegaon blasts case

HYDERABAD: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi expressed deep disappointment over the acquittal of all accused in the 2006 Malegaon blast case, calling it a consequence of a “deliberately shoddy investigation.” The blast killed six people and injured several others.

In a post on X, Owaisi questioned whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis would appeal the verdict, as they had earlier sought a stay in the Mumbai train blasts case. He reminded the public that in 2016, former public prosecutor Rohini Salian alleged that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had pressured her to go soft on the accused. In 2017, the NIA moved to exonerate Sadhvi Pragya, who later became a BJP MP.

Owaisi recalled how ATS officer Hemant Karkare, who had unearthed the Malegaon conspiracy, was killed in the 26/11 attacks. He noted that the same BJP MP had controversially claimed her “curse” caused Karkare’s death. He asked whether NIA and ATS officials would ever be held accountable for what he termed a flawed investigation. “The Modi government claims to be tough on terror, but what about justice for victims’ families?” he said.
