Hyderabad: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has been appointed as a member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) examining Bills that propose the removal of any minister, chief minister, or prime minister from office if they are arrested for 30 consecutive days for an offence punishable with five or more years of imprisonment.
According to the Lok Sabha Bulletin issued on Wednesday, Owaisi is part of the 31-member Committee. The panel will examine the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025, chaired by Aparajita Sarangi, Member of the Lok Sabha.
Both Bills form part of a broader legislative package introduced alongside the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025, which seeks to address the issue of elected representatives retaining office while under custody for serious criminal offences.
