Overflowing Causeway Delays Wedding By 5 Hours
When the water flow did not recede, locals stepped in to help by lifting the groom and carrying him across the overflowing causeway: Reports

KARIMNAGAR: In a bizarre incident, floodwaters nearly forced the postponement of a wedding ceremony, with the couple ultimately tying the knot almost five hours late due to continuous rains in the area. The groom, travelling with his family for the wedding, had to be carried on the shoulders of locals to cross a flooded causeway and reach the bride’s home in Ganneruvaram mandal of Karimnagar district on Wednesday.
The wedding of Komura Mallu, a resident of Gunjapadugu village in Jagtial district, and Teku Bhagya from Ganneruvaram mandal headquarters was scheduled for Wednesday. The groom’s party, travelling by car, reached the outskirts of Ganneruvaram through Venkatrao Pally and Pottooru villages. However, the village’s main tank had overflowed onto the low-level causeway, making it impossible for vehicles to pass. As a result, the groom and his family were stranded on the road for nearly four hours.
When the water flow did not recede, locals stepped in to help by lifting the groom and carrying him across the overflowing causeway. This allowed him to finally reach the wedding venue, where the couple was united, albeit five hours later than the scheduled time.
The incident underscored a persistent problem in the newly formed Ganneruvaram mandal. Located between the Lower Manair Dam and the Manair River, the local tank and ponds often overflow, causing major inconvenience for residents. Villagers report that when the Ganneruvaram tank overflows, travel to and from neighbouring villages becomes impossible, making it particularly difficult to transport pregnant women and patients during the monsoon season.
Residents have long demanded the construction of a high-level bridge at the Ganneruvaram tank, as well as another bridge near Peruvella village, where a 40-year-old bridge frequently gets submerged. The lack of such infrastructure leaves the entire mandal cut off from the district headquarters during heavy rainfall.
