Overcrowding Affects Amenities at Niloufer Hospital

Hospital superintendent G Vijay Kumar denied allegations of bed shortage and said every patient was provided proper treatment and all facilities were available

Hyderabad: Attendants at Niloufer Hospital have alleged overcrowding, delays in admissions and inadequate amenities, even as they said medical care remained satisfactory. The rising patient load, they said, was straining infrastructure and causing inconvenience.

Niloufer Hospital, one of the state’s largest government facilities for women and children, receives patients from Hyderabad and several districts, leading to a heavy inflow.

An attendant from Kodurupaka in Rajanna Sircilla district, whose sister was admitted for delivery, alleged that two patients were made to share a single bed due to shortage. She said this was the prevailing situation across wards, though treatment was good.

Another attendant from Kodangal said they faced difficulty in securing a bed because of the patient load. “We had to wait for some time before a bed was allotted. The treatment is good, but whenever there is a large influx of patients, problems arise,” he said.

An attendant from Mancherial alleged delays in admission after his daughter suffered a head injury on August 4. He said they reached the hospital between 7.30 pm and 8 pm, but admission was completed only around 1 am.

He further alleged that they were shifted between three rooms before a bed was arranged and that some rooms lacked basic facilities such as functioning fans. He wondered how attendants could manage when two patients were accommodated on a single bed, citing concerns over space and hygiene.

Attendants also raised concerns over sanitation and availability of basic amenities, stating that overcrowding was affecting cleanliness at the hospital.

Despite these issues, most attendants said they were satisfied with the treatment provided and that their concerns were limited to infrastructure and crowding. Hospital superintendent G Vijay Kumar denied allegations of bed shortage and said every patient was provided proper treatment and all facilities were available.
