Nizamabad: More than 70,000 devotees thronged the Basar temple on Monday for Vasantha Panchami, a day marking Goddess Saraswati’s Janma Nakshatra, as parents initiated their children into Aksharabhyasam.
Collector Abhilasha Abhinav participated by offering ‘Pattu Vastralu’ to the goddess, overseeing the arrangements, and instructing officials to facilitate smooth darshan. Despite the efforts, devotees waited for four hours in long queues for a glimpse of the deity.
Mudhole MLA Ramarao Patel also conducted a special puja in honour of Goddess Saraswati. Over the first two days of the celebrations on February 1 and 2, an estimated 80,000 devotees visited the temple.
However, amid the large crowds, some devotees reported that their valuables, including gold ornaments, were stolen while waiting in line. Superintendent of police Janaki Sharmila, additional SP Avinash Kumar, Bhainsa RDO Komal Reddy, and temple in-charge EO Sudhakar Reddy were among the officials present to manage the event.
