OU Extends Summer Vacation Till June 6
The university said the decision was taken considering the prevailing temperatures. Academic activities will resume from June 8, a Monday.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGPSC) is set to release three recruitment notifications on Tuesday for more than 270 vacancies, with several more notifications expected through June. The commission also announced a shift to computer-based exams for greater efficiency.
In a major relief for job aspirants, the TGPSC has announced that it will issue 2 to 3 job notifications every month. TSPSC Chairman Burra Venkatesham said that three notifications would be released on Tuesday and that the commission planned to issue five to six notifications during the current month.
He noted that several posts currently have very few vacancies, with around 28 categories having just one vacancy each and 25 categories having fewer than five vacancies.
The chairman also announced key reforms in the examination process, stating that TSPSC was planning to conduct recruitment tests through a computer-based format. He explained that the existing OMR-based system was complex, whereas computer-based exams would allow question papers to be generated even an hour before the test.
Venkatesham added that candidates would be able to know their marks immediately after the examination, ensuring greater transparency and efficiency in the recruitment process. Venkatesham advised aspirants to prepare for computer-based tests, as most future examinations are likely to be conducted in this format. He emphasised that several reforms are being introduced to improve the overall examination system.
He also said that despite the large number of applications received for recruitment notifications, only a very small percentage of candidates could ultimately secure jobs. Referring to a recent recruitment drive for 20 assistant scientist posts in the Telangana Pollution Control Board, he said the notification received nearly 19,000 applications. “No matter how many people apply, only 20 candidates can be selected. It is natural for unsuccessful candidates to feel disappointed,” he said.
Venkatesham cautioned against the spread of misinformation and said the commission would initiate legal action against those “running negative campaigns” against TGPSC for personal gain.
He further said the finance department had approved recruitment for nearly 3,800 posts across departments. While many categories have limited vacancies, he noted that “major recruitments are also in the pipeline,” including 1,393 forest beat officer posts. Efforts are also underway to fill Deputy Educational Officer posts soon, while interviews may be conducted for degree lecturer vacancies in line with University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations and government orders.
