HYDERABAD: Osmania University College of Engineering received national recognition after its student branch was named the IEEE India Council Outstanding Emerging Student Branch Award, for its work in technical education, research activity and student-led innovation.
The award was presented at IEEE Indicon 2025, the annual flagship conference of the council, held at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bengaluru. The recognition was based on the consistent performance of the IEEE student branch at the college, its regular technical programmes and the participation of students across disciplines.
The award was received on behalf of the university by Prof. G. Mallesham, the IEEE student branch counsellor, along with Nitin Narasimha Vadla, Student Branch Chair for 2024–25. IEEE India Council chair, Prof. Prerana Gaur, presented the award.
University officials said the recognition was proof of sustained student engagement rather than a one-off achievement. Faculty members credited the student branch for maintaining continuity in workshops, research discussions and peer-led technical learning.
OU Vice Chancellor Kumar Molugaram congratulated the students and faculty, saying the award is fruit of the institution’s focus on combining academic learning with research and innovation. He expressed hope that students would continue to build professional and research skills alongside technical competence.
Prof. Mallesham’s mentoring role was cited by students and faculty members, who said the student branch’s growth was the result of steady guidance and collaborative effort. OUCE Principal P. Chandrasekhar said the recognition reaffirmed the university’s role in producing technically capable and socially responsible engineers.
