OU Arts College to Be Restored to Its Grandeur
90-year-old building gets registered trademark

Hyderabad: The iconic Osmania University Arts College building, recently given a trademark, will be restored to its grandeur, with the university allocating Rs 7 crore for the purpose.
Several prominent personalities, including former prime minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, Justice Sardar Ali Khan, and S. Jaipal Reddy, rose in their life and careers after passing out from this building.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Osmania University Vice Chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram said, “This is a jubilant moment for the faculty, students, both past and present, who were associated with this iconic Arts College building.”
“Restoration work will begin soon. The leaking roof, several rooms, and accessibility features for the physically challenged will be addressed. A lift will also be installed,” he explained.
The facade of the building was constructed between 1934 and 1939. It has been an intrinsic part of Osmania University’s heritage and Hyderabad’s architectural appeal since 1939.
The building is a fusion of Qutub Shahi and Mughal styles, with Kakatiyan temple influences. It was designed by Belgian architect Ernest Jasper.
Subhajit Saha, an alumnus of the Arts College and founder of Resolute4ip, was the agent who applied for the trademark on April 22, 2024. He said this was the best gift that he could offer to the institution, faculty, and students from whom he learned the law.
He also shared ideas on how the OU Arts College could become a sought-after destination for global travellers and content creators, showcasing this marvel while monetising the brand.
The trademark registration will enable the Arts College to have its exclusive rights on its facade and could use it as a brand on its products. No third party can use the image of the building for commercial purposes or financial gain.
