Osmania General Hospital Opens Upgraded Dermatology Facilities
Osmania General Hospital inaugurated upgraded dermatology facilities, including a dermatosurgery theatre, laser room and NB-UVB phototherapy room, along with a library and research room.
New facilities were inaugurated for the department of dermatology, venereology and leprosy (DVL) at Osmania General Hospital on Tuesdsy, including an upgraded dermatosurgery theatre, laser room, NB-UVB phototherapy room as well as a library and a research room on Tuesday. The facilities were inaugurated by director of medical education Dr N. Vani, additional director of medical education Dr M. Raja Rao, and Osmania General Hospital medical superintendent Dr Rakesh Kumar Sahay.
Prof. Dr K. Bhumesh Kumar Katakam, head of the DVL department, said that department catered to about 300 out-patients a day, including 50 to 75 patients attending its paediatric dermatology speciality clinic. The average in-patient bed occupancy was 75 per cent.
The department performs up to 10 diagnostic and therapeutic procedures a day, including skin biopsies, radiofrequency ablation, electrocautery, cryotherapy and intralesional injections. It also conducts acne and acne-scar management, vitiligo surgeries and nail surgeries, Dr Katakam said.
Phototherapy was provided free of cost, with 15 to 20 patients receiving the service each day. The department also provides laser services free of cost, using Q-switched, Nd:YAG and diode lasers for procedures including laser hair reduction, tattoo removal, scar management, melasma and hidradenitis suppurativa. The department provides services for skin, hair and nail disorders, sexually transmitted infections and leprosy. It also implements national programmes related to leprosy and sexually transmitted infections, with a focus on diagnosis and treatment.
