The victim, identified as Lishetti Raju Kumar, is believed to have been driven to suicide due to the financial strain caused by online gambling.
Warangal: A 26-year-old youth from Yellandu village in Wardhannapet mandal, Warangal district, died by suicide on Saturday due to his addiction to online betting.
According to police, the deceased was identified as Lyshetti Raj Kumar, the third son of farmers Kumara Swamy and Bhagya Lakshmi. After completing his graduation, Raj Kumar began preparing for competitive examinations but became addicted to online betting. He lost over Rs 30 lakh through and was harassed by the betting organisers.
In recent days, Raj Kumar forced his father to give him Rs 4 lakh to continue betting. When his father refused, Raj Kumar fell into depression and attempted suicide several times, but his family members saved him each time. However, on Saturday morning, while his family was working in the fields, Raj Kumar died by suicide.
The police have registered the case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
