One-Vote Win, Recounts Mark Tense Municipal Poll Counting
In the 17th Ward of Parkala Municipality in Hanamkonda district, Congress candidate Subhadra won by a single vote, polling 369 votes against 368 secured by BRS candidate Rajini: Reports

WARANGAL: The 2026 municipal elections in the erstwhile Warangal and Karimnagar districts witnessed narrow victories, recounts and administrative disruptions, with Independents emerging as decisive players in several hung councils.
In the 17th Ward of Parkala Municipality in Hanamkonda district, Congress candidate Subhadra won by a single vote, polling 369 votes against 368 secured by BRS candidate Rajini. The result was finalised after a recount sought by the BRS.
In Wardhannapet, the 11th Ward result was declared in favour of the Congress candidate after three recounts, with a margin of one vote. BRS leaders lodged a complaint with the district collector alleging administrative bias.
In Huzurabad, counting was delayed after the keys to the strong room were reportedly misplaced. Officials broke open the locks in the presence of police to access the ballot boxes. After counting resumed, Congress secured victory.
In Jagtial, candidates loyal to senior leader Jeevan Reddy, who contested as Independents after being denied party tickets, won 14 wards, while Congress secured 12. The BRS and BJP won four seats each, placing the Independents in a key position in the election of the chairperson.
In Jammikunta, where the council remains hung with the BRS winning 12 seats, Congress 10 and BJP four, tensions escalated outside the counting centre. A scuffle was reported as rival party leaders sought the support of independent winners. Reports indicated that efforts were being made to secure backing for the formation of the council.
At Sircilla, officials placed cut-outs of langurs around the counting centre at CNR Kalamandiram to prevent monkeys from entering the premises.
Public protests were reported on the Warangal-Khammam National Highway, where residents staged a sit-in questioning attempts by political parties to secure support from Independents. Some Independent councillors reportedly shifted to undisclosed locations amid political developments.
The election of chairpersons in several municipalities now hinges on the support of independent members.
