Hyderabad:One in four voters is likely to receive notices from the Election Commission of India after publication of the draft voters’ list on August 17 as part of the special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll.
The ECI recorded anomalies in over 20 per cent of enumeration forms in most districts, with Wanaparthy registering the highest at 28 per cent, followed by Nizamabad and Mahbubnagar at 27 per cent each.
In Hyderabad, where 57 per cent of enumeration forms have been digitised, anomalies stood at just over 13 per cent. With about 77 per cent of forms digitised statewide, anomalies have crossed 62 lakh, including 6.43 lakh in Hyderabad.
Observers said maximum anomalies were due to ‘language transliteration’ from Telugu to English, citing that the 2002 SIR voter lists were prepared in Telugu. “I believe maximum anomalies are not logical, but because of language transliteration. Anomalies are being generated by AI‑driven algorithms run by the apps currently employed by ECI. The 2002 list was in Telugu and prepared mostly with mistakes,” said Karimnagar‑based advocate M.A. Mujeeb Ayyub, who is volunteering with the SIR.
