OCTOPUS Sharpens Emergency Response Through Mock Drills

According to officials, six OCTOPUS SWAT teams conducted 18 mock exercises between January and May this year, including 13 at highly vulnerable and sensitive locations

Hyderabad: The Organisation for Counter Terrorist Operations (OCTOPUS) on Friday reviewed lessons learnt from a series of mock exercises conducted this year to strengthen emergency response capabilities and operational preparedness.
A comprehensive review meeting was held at the OCTOPUS commando training centre in Ibrahimpatnam under the supervision of Dr Anil Kumar, DG, Operations, OCTOPUS and Greyhounds, to assess field experiences gathered during mock drills conducted across vulnerable locations in and around Hyderabad.
It was aimed at strengthening response during emergencies and integrating field-level observations into future operational planning. Officials discussed feedback collected during post-exercise debriefing sessions, analysing strengths, operational weaknesses, response mechanisms and challenges encountered during mock situations.

The meeting focused on identifying strategic gaps, operational hurdles, inter-team coordination, information-sharing systems and command-and-control mechanisms. Officials also deliberated on reforms required in training methodologies to effectively respond to emergency situations in future.
Emphasising the importance of rapid response and quick decision-making, officials stressed the need for better coordination, optimal use of modern technology and stronger ground-level implementation during crises.
Training advisor, Bharat Prasad, SP administration, M. Venkateshwarlu, additional SP, Operations, Ch. Raghunandan Rao, SWAT teams and training personnel attended the meeting.
