Oct. Heat Set To Ease As Northeast Monsoon Sets In
The October heat is likely to ease over the next two days as the northeast monsoon sets in: Reports

HYDERABAD: The October heat is likely to ease over the next two days as the northeast monsoon sets in, bringing rain prospects to parts of Telangana after an extended spell of warm afternoons.
The IMD has issued yellow alerts for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in 15 districts on Thursday, October 15. These include Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal‑Malkajgiri, Mahbubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal. Heavy rain is forecast at isolated places from October 17 to 19.
TSDPS scientist Dr Y.V. Rama Rao said rainfall was expected over south Telangana from October 16 under the influence of an easterly wave moving from the Bay of Bengal towards the Tamil Nadu coast. “With the onset of the northeast monsoon, maximum temperatures are expected to return to normal within two days,” he said.
The forecast offers relief from Hyderabad’s recent contrast of cool mornings and hot afternoons. Minimum temperatures ranged from 16.3°C at Ibrahimpatnam and 17.1°C at Patancheru to around 19°C at Uppal‑Bandlaguda and Ghatkesar. Several other locations recorded below 20°C, while central areas of the city saw 20°C to 23°C.
Despite cooler starts, daytime temperatures have remained high, with the mercury touching 34°C, IMD data showed. The difference between morning and afternoon conditions has made the weather feel less like winter, even as early mornings offered respite.
The expected change is linked to the evolving monsoon pattern rather than an immediate state‑wide spell of rain. While south Telangana is set to receive showers from October 16, the extent and distribution will determine how quickly conditions improve elsewhere.
For now, the forecast points to a gradual easing of the heat rather than an abrupt shift to cooler weather. Maximum temperatures are expected to normalise within two days of the northeast monsoon’s onset, according to Rama Rao.
