Numaish Introduces Indian Idol–Style Singing Contest for First Time, Applications open until 25 Jan
The winners will receive cash prizes, with the first prize set at Rs.1 lakh and the second prize Rs.50,000.

Hyderabad: The Exhibition Society has introduced an ‘Indian Idol’-style singing competition, ‘Sur Star’ at the Numaish, to provide a platform for young, undiscovered talent. Nearly 400 applications have been received and the window is open till January 25, the All India Exhibition Society said in a statement.
Muqyer Hyder, convener of the society’s cultural programme sub-committee, said the competition is open to participants aged between 16 and 35 years. Registrations were opened through the Exhibition Society’s official website. Posters announcing the event have also been displayed across the Numaish premises.
Auditions are scheduled to be held on January 27, following which 12 shortlisted participants will perform before the public on February 7 and the grand finale will be held on February 8.
“The idea is to identify rare talent that otherwise does not get a platform,” Muqyer Hyder told Deccan Chronicle. “Many youngsters have the ability but lack opportunities. Through this initiative, we want to bring them into the spotlight and later promote them through college events and other cultural programmes.”
The winners will receive cash prizes, with the first prize set at Rs.1 lakh and the second prize Rs.50,000.
Hyder added that the organising committee was exploring the possibility of involving celebrities to enhance the visibility of the event, though no final decision has been taken yet. “We are working on involving well-known personalities, which will add value to the programme, but nothing has been finalised so far,” he said.
