No Compromise on Our Share of Krishna Waters: Revanth
CM asks lawyers to strongly present the state’s case before KWDT-II for rightful allocation
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday said that Telangana should make effective arguments before the Krishna Waters Disputes Tribunal (KWDT) -II in a manner that would ensure that the state gets its rightful share of 511 tmc ft of water of the 811 tmc ft that was allocated by the Bachawat Tribunal to the erstwhile unified Andhra Pradesh.
Revanth Reddy was speaking at a meeting to review Telangana’s final preparations for its rejoinder arguments before KWDT-II. The meeting was attended by irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, senior Supreme Court lawyer and counsel for Telangana C.S. Vaidhyanathan, along with senior irrigation department officials.
The Chief Minister also said that Telangana should present its case effectively to ensure that if AP gets to use 80 tmc ft of water to divert to its Polavaram project, then Telangana should get the 45 tmc ft of water that it can claim as the upper riparian state. In effect, Revanth Reddy said, Telangana’s case should be that it gets a total of 600 tmc ft of water as its share from Krishna river.
He said the state government was constructing projects with plans to use 600 tmc ft of Krishna water. When the lawyers explained that the case on the Brijesh Kumar tribunal award was before the Supreme Court and that the next hearing was in September, he said that the state’s arguments should be such that no injustice is done to Telangana’s share from Krishna.
