Nizamabad is gearing up to celebrate its annual Oora Panduga on August 2, with preparations under way to organise the community festival on a grand scale. Sarva Samaj president and former MLA Endala Lakshminarayana on Sunday appealed to residents to participate in large numbers and make the celebrations a grand success.
Addressing a preparatory meeting at Sirnapalli Gadi, Lakshminarayana said arrangements for the festival had already begun and that the celebrations would be organised on a grand scale.
He said the traditional Bandaru ritual would be observed on July 30 as part of the festivities. As in previous years, all community organisations across the city would participate in the celebrations, he added.
The meeting also expressed concern over the alleged encroachment of temple lands in the city and resolved to take steps to protect temple properties. Lakshminarayana said special committees would be constituted under the banner of Sarva Samaj to safeguard temples and their lands.
Sarva Samaj committee convener Ramarthi Gangadhar, co-convener Ade Praveen, Anthi Reddy Sudan, Thonduru Ashok, Bantu Balaram, Bhakta Vatsalam, Satyapal, members of various caste associations and others attended the meeting.
