Nizamabad: South Central Railway (SCR) has stepped up water-quality monitoring at Nizamabad railway station and railway colonies in the Hyderabad division to ensure safe drinking water.
The checks cover water sources, storage facilities, chlorination and distribution systems, with daily residual chlorine tests and regular bacteriological examinations.
Of the 531 drinking water samples tested for residual chlorine, all were found satisfactory. None of the 134 samples subjected to bacteriological testing was unsafe, and no E. coli contamination was detected.
Engineering and Medical Department officials also jointly inspected Ground Level Reservoirs and High-Level Reservoirs.
SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava directed officials to maintain continuous monitoring and ensure that water supplied at stations meets the standards prescribed in the Indian Railways Medical Manual.
He called for frequent testing and inspections to ensure clean and safe drinking water for passengers and railway residents.
