Hyderabad: A mandal surveyor in Nirmal (R) mandal was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Adilabad range, on Tuesday while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹7,500 through a private intermediary.
According to the ACB, AO-I N. Bala Krishna Varma, attached to the office of the Tahsildar, Nirmal (R), had sought illegal gratification from a complainant for demarcating land and handing over the relevant panchanama pertaining to the complainant’s father-in-law.
Officials said the surveyor initially demanded ₹15,000, and accepted ₹5,000 as part payment. He later insisted on the balance of ₹10,000, but following the complainant’s plea, the demand was reduced to ₹7,500.
The bribe was allegedly collected through another accused, Pola Nagaraju, a private assistant to the surveyor. The amount was recovered from Nagaraju’s possession at the instance of the public servant, the ACB stated.
Both the surveyor and the intermediary were arrested and will be produced before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases at Karimnagar. Further investigation is in progress.
