NGRI Hosts Magnetotelluric Techniques Training
The event, which will conclude on Friday, is being held under the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative.
Hyderabad: Magnetotelluric (MT) techniques used to study underground geological structures and aid exploration of minerals, hydrocarbons and geothermal resources were the focus of a five-day training programme being conducted by the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) here. The event, which will conclude on Friday, is being held under the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative. It brought together 11 participants for training in MT data acquisition, processing and interpretation, as well field-based practicals and hands-on experience.
MT techniques help identify subsurface geological structures by analysing variations in electrical resistivity. The training covers different aspects of data collection and interpretation to provide participants with practical exposure to the technique, a statement said. The programme was inaugurated in the presence of NGRI Director Prakash Kumar, nodal officer for skill development initiatives Abhey Ram Bansal. Course coordinator B.P.K. Patro spoke about the applications of MT techniques in mineral, hydrocarbon and geothermal exploration.
