Newborn’s Death Sparks Outrage, Kin Protest Near Highway

The infant, born to Ravali, wife of local resident Bill Chandu, was delivered by caesarean section on Friday morning.

Warangal: A newborn’s death at the Government Hospital here on Friday sparked outrage when family members staged a sit-in protest on the adjacent national highway, demanding accountability and justice for their baby’s loss.

The infant, born to Ravali, wife of local resident Bill Chandu, was delivered by caesarean section on Friday morning. Hospital superintendent Dr P. Jagadish told Deccan Chronicle the boy was initially stable but developed complications, prompting staff — under health department supervision — to transfer him by ambulance to MGM Hospital. The child died en route. “This was a rare, unavoidable case,” Dr Jagadish said, adding that the family, present throughout, accepted the medical explanation and withdrew without filing a complaint.

Still, relatives insisted on blaming hospital negligence and brought the infant’s body onto the highway to coincide with a visit by state ministers Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and Seetakka, who were en route to a revenue meeting in Venkatapur mandal. Protesters displayed the child’s body to attract attention to their grievance.

Minister Seetakka, witnessing the demonstration, promised an inquiry and pledged to “take action against anyone found responsible.” The family remains encamped on the highway, refusing to clear the road until they receive formal assurances of justice.
