New Ration Cards Ready for Distribution Before Poll Code in Telangana
Under the previous BRS government, the issuance of new ration cards was halted in all 33 districts, leaving poor families struggling in villages and towns.

Nizamabad: After a decade, the distribution of new ration cards is finally set to begin. The Civil Supplies Department has printed the new cards and dispatched them to all districts across the state. It is expected that, ahead of the local body election code of conduct, these cards will be distributed to applicants.
Under the previous BRS government, the issuance of new ration cards was halted in all 33 districts, leaving poor families struggling in villages and towns. Since the Congress took office, the process has accelerated following initiatives by civil supplies minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy.
Some members of undivided families have opted to remove their names from old ration cards and apply for new ones. The promise of receiving a three-month quota of high-quality rice in one delivery has also encouraged prompt applications. Newly formed families and children over six years old are now included on the new cards.
During a video conference, senior officials directed district authorities to prepare for the card distribution. Reportedly, MLAs will hand out the new cards to residents in their respective assembly constituencies. The cards were delivered to the districts by June 2, in time for Telangana’s Formation Day.
In Kamareddy district, 3,889 new ration cards have been sanctioned, and 66,114 people have applied to add their names to existing cards. A senior official from the civil supplies department assured that all eligible applicants will receive new cards soon and that the issuance process is ongoing, there is no need for concern.
