New Book Calls For Practical Learning In Higher Education

Hyderabad:A new book on experiential learning calls for higher education to move beyond classroom teaching and give students more opportunities to connect theory with practical experience. Titled Experiential Learning: A Game Changer in Higher Education, the book is authored by Prof. V. Balakista Reddy, chairman of the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE). IT and industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu released it on Monday.

Sridhar Babu said experiential learning “plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applications”. He said the book would help undergraduate and postgraduate students gain practical knowledge, develop industry-relevant skills and improve their employability. He also suggested that universities across Telangana encourage wider use of the book in academic activities.

Prof. Reddy said the book aims to connect classroom learning with real-world experience. It focuses on “learning through practical exposure, hands-on activities, projects, problem-solving, internships and industry interactions”. These approaches, he said, would help students develop critical thinking, creativity, communication, teamwork and professional skills needed in the changing employment landscape.

“Higher education must move beyond conventional classroom-based teaching and focus on outcome-based, skill-oriented and experiential approaches to learning,” Prof. Reddy said. He added that TGCHE was “committed to academic reforms that integrate knowledge, skills and practical experience to make graduates industry-ready and improve their employment opportunities”.

Officials from the Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK), Amazon Web Services (AWS) and other representatives from the higher education and skill development sectors attended the book release.
