New AOC road network opens amid Cantonment merger push

The road network was inaugurated by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and has been developed in view of plans to convert the AOC centre into a full-fledged military station following the proposed merger of cantonment civil areas.

Hyderabad: A 5.753-km alternative road network around the army ordnance corps (AOC) centre has been opened to maintain connectivity and ease long-standing traffic problems, with residents and local groups describing it as one of the most visible developments linked to the proposed merger of Secunderabad cantonment civil areas with the greater Hyderabad municipal corporation.

The road network was inaugurated by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and has been developed in view of plans to convert the AOC centre into a full-fledged military station following the proposed merger of cantonment civil areas.

The corridor has been taken up at an estimated cost of ₹960 crore, including land acquisition expenditure. The road network, with four lanes and six service roads, will ensure uninterrupted movement for commuters, who have long faced traffic congestion and access restrictions around defence land.

Cantonment Vikas Manch group told Deccan Chronicle that the alternative road network would help address connectivity concerns while supporting the process of “integrating cantonment civil areas with the city’s municipal administration.”
