New Ad Policy Bars Displays Near Junctions, Flyovers
TOMO president Syed Iftequar Mehdi said the policy was a significant step towards improving transparency, safety, accountability and systematic regulation in the outdoor advertising sector

Hyderabad:Restrictions on hoardings near junctions, flyovers and traffic signals are expected to bring greater order to Hyderabad’s outdoor advertising sector, the Telangana Outdoor Media Owners Association (TOMO) said on Wednesday while welcoming the state government’s new advertising policy.
Addressing a press conference on GO No. 173, TOMO representatives said the policy provided a clear regulatory framework for outdoor advertising while balancing business interests with public safety and urban aesthetics. The guidelines have come into immediate effect and are being implemented by GHMC, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri civic authorities.
Under the new policy, advertisement boards are prohibited within 100 feet of major junctions and 50 feet of flyovers and ramps. Digital advertising displays are not permitted near flyovers and traffic signal zones. Rooftop advertisements will be allowed only on commercial buildings up to G+4 floors, while advertisements on residential buildings, heritage structures, religious places, schools and hospitals have been barred.
TOMO president Syed Iftequar Mehdi said the policy was a significant step towards improving transparency, safety, accountability and systematic regulation in the outdoor advertising sector. “The policy provides much-needed clarity and establishes a structured framework for the industry while reinforcing public safety and responsible advertising practices,” he said.
The policy caps the maximum size of advertisement structures at 1,000 square feet and makes approval from the the Advertisement Regulatory Committee (ARC) mandatory. Permits will remain valid for up to five years. Unipole advertisements will be permitted within private and commercial premises subject to prescribed conditions.
All authorised structures must display permit details and QR codes and be geo-tagged to facilitate monitoring and compliance. Authorities have also been empowered to remove unauthorised advertising structures without prior notice.
TOMO general secretary K. Ramesh welcomed the government’s initiative, saying a transparent regulatory framework would encourage legitimate investment while ensuring compliance with safety and civic standards. Joint secretary S. Madhu said the association would work with government departments and civic authorities to support effective implementation of the new policy.
