Nekkonda Fights For Train Stops At Railway Station

The forum said permanent halts for passing trains would greatly benefit people in the region: Reports

WARANGAL: The Nekkonda Railway Station Development Advisory and Awareness Forum has written to railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, requesting that more trains halt at, located between Mahbubabad and Warangal districts.

Nekkonda, a 150-year-old key station, serves around 15,000-20,000 people from nine surrounding mandals. It is a major hub for travel to cities such as Vijayawada, Hyderabad, Tirupati, and Chennai. The station generates about ₹65,000 in daily ticket revenue and nearly ₹50 crore annually from train services.

Thousands of residents, including 3,000-4,000 software employees and many others travelling for business or pilgrimage, depend on the station. The forum said permanent halts for passing trains would greatly benefit people in the region.

In its letter, the forum sought permanent stops for several important trains, including the 12705/12706 Intercity Superfast Express, 12763 TPTY–SC Padmavathi Superfast Express, 12714/12713 Satavahana Express, 12760/12759 Charminar Express, and 17206/17205 Shirdi Express.

Meanwhile, on requests made by Narsampet MLA Donthi Madhava Reddy and TPCC member Sontireddy Ranjith Reddy, Mahbubabad MP Porika Balram Naik met Union minister of state for railways Ravneet Singh and submitted a representation seeking permanent halts for the Intercity Express and other Superfast Express trains. He explained the difficulties faced by residents of the nine mandals due to the lack of train stops at Nekkonda.

Responding positively, minister Ravneet Singh assured that the Intercity Express would be given a permanent halt soon, along with some other Superfast Express trains.

Forum convener Gorentla Venkataraman told Deccan Chronicle that the Intercity Superfast Express halt at Nekkonda had recently been cancelled, causing hardships for passengers. The train earlier generated ₹20,000-₹25,000 daily, with around 400-500 people travelling from Nekkonda to major cities.

With the cancellation, passengers are forced to spend an additional ₹1,000-₹1,500 to travel to other stations, he said, urging the authorities to restore the Intercity Express halt and extend stops for other Superfast Express trains.
