NECW Activities to be Intensified in AP

Chairing the state energy conservation mission, he attributed this achievement to the state’s rigorous and sustained implementation of innovative energy efficiency programmes.

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh has once again reaffirmed its leadership in energy efficiency, with Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand noting that the state has secured more than eight national energy conservation awards over the past decade.

Chairing the state energy conservation mission, he attributed this achievement to the state’s rigorous and sustained implementation of innovative energy efficiency programmes.

Reviewing the preparedness for the national energy conservation week, from December 14 to 20, the chief secretary directed Discom CMDs Prudhvitej, P. Pulla Reddy, Shiva Shanker Lotheti, NREDCAP VC & MD M Kamalaket Babu, and all district collectors to work in close coordination with SECM and the state designated agency. He urged officials to ensure maximum public participation and create wide awareness on the importance of energy conservation, stressing that the campaign must be implemented with “total seriousness and public-centric focus.”

Vijayanand also unveiled a communication strategy report for energy efficiency programmes, prepared by A. Chandra Sekhara Reddy, adviser to BEE & EESL, in the presence of APSECM CEO and APGenco MD, Naga Lakshmi.

Highlighting AP’s pioneering role, the chief secretary said AP was implementing several time-bound initiatives under the power ministry’s Bureau of Energy Efficiency. These include the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC), the Perform–Achieve–Trade (PAT) scheme, the Standards & Labelling programme, and multiple demand-side management interventions.

“AP continues to stand among India’s most forward-looking states in energy efficiency,” he remarked.

Supporting the chief minister’s vision of providing 24x7 quality power at global standards, Vijayanand said the energy department was prioritising the integration of modern technologies, with continued backing from the central government—an effort that would also contribute to India’s goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2070.

APSECM CEO, Naga Lakshmi, said this year’s NECW would involve intensified outreach, especially targeting students and women. She noted that with BEE’s support, Energy Clubs have already been established in several schools.

She urged educational institutions to mobilise these clubs to advance the state’s energy conservation movement.
