The representatives told officials that serving teachers across the country were anxious about the requirement to clear TET by August 31, 2028, following the Supreme Court judgment.
HYDERABAD: The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has decided to constitute a sub-committee to review the teacher eligibility test (TET) syllabus, qualifying marks and examination pattern, according to the School Teachers’ Federation of India (STFI). The federation said it also sought changes to the test and raised concerns over the August 31, 2028 deadline for serving teachers to qualify TET.
STFI president C.N. Bharti led a delegation that met NCTE chairman Prof. Pankaj Arora, member secretary Sukh Geet Kaur, deputy secretary Satish Kumar and other officials in New Delhi on Wednesday. General secretary Chava Ravi and vice-presidents K. S. S. Prasad and N. Venkateshwarlu were part of the delegation.
The representatives told officials that serving teachers across the country were anxious about the requirement to clear TET by August 31, 2028, following the Supreme Court judgment. They asked the NCTE to scientifically determine the syllabus, conduct subject-wise examinations and reduce the qualifying marks.
STFI leaders said NCTE officials expressed hope that the issue would be resolved soon and that a decision would allay teachers’ concerns.
The delegation later visited Nirvachan Sadan and submitted representations to the Election Commission of India. It sought steps to restrict voter enrolment in forthcoming Teachers’ and Graduates’ MLC elections to eligible persons and asked that primary and upper-primary school teachers be given voting rights in Teachers’ MLC elections.
