Naxal Cave Hideout Unearthed in Karangutta Hills

WARANGAL: Joint police forces uncovered a vast Naxalite hideout deep within the dense forests of the Karangutta hills during a search operation on Saturday.
According to senior officials, the cave could shelter up to 1,000 insurgents and contained a large cache of arms and ammunition. Investigators seized automatic rifles, explosive materials and sophisticated communication equipment.
Inside the cave, officers discovered a narrow, concealed tunnel at the rear, which emerges on the opposite side of the hill. “This passage would have allowed cadres to move covertly and evade capture,” said a police spokesperson.
Further examination revealed a natural underground water source, with water seeping through the rock ceiling, likely sustaining occupants during prolonged stays. In an unexpected find, a Shiva Lingam adorned with sindoor and gulal was also unearthed; authorities are probing whether it was used by the Maoists or local tribal communities.
Police believe the insurgents vacated the site shortly before the raid, possibly tipped off about the impending operation. No local inhabitants typically traverse this high-risk terrain due to the strong Maoist presence, officials noted. Security has been heightened along the border, and detailed investigations are underway to chart the full scope of the hideout’s operations and to dismantle any remaining support networks.
