Nature Lovers Pay Tribute to Vanajeevi Ramaiah by Planting Sapling Near His Mortal Remains

Ramaiah, credited with planting over one crore saplings, was a towering figure in Telangana’s green movement and a symbol of grassroots environmental activism

Warangal: Environmentalists, nature lovers, and admirers from across Telangana gathered in Khammam on Sunday to pay tributes to Padma Shri awardee and renowned environmentalist Daripalli Ramaiah, popularly known as "Vanajeevi Ramaiah," who passed away on Saturday due to a heart attack in his sleep.

Ramaiah, credited with planting over one crore saplings, was a towering figure in Telangana’s green movement and a symbol of grassroots environmental activism. His funeral drew a large number of eco-activists, government officials, and well-wishers who raised slogans in his honour and remembered his lifelong dedication to afforestation.

Among those who travelled to attend the funeral were prominent environmentalists including Desham Kosam Prakash (Warangal), Green Janardhan (Nizamabad), Prakruthi Prakash (Hanamkonda), and Rajasekhar (Sircilla). As a symbolic gesture of remembrance, a sapota (chikoo) tree was planted near his final resting place following the completion of the last rites.
