Narayanpur Villagers Protest at Gangadhara
The protesters said the entire village lives in fear whenever the reservoir reaches full capacity during the monsoon.
KARIMNAGAR: Residents of Narayanpur village in Gangadhara mandal on Monday staged a dharna at Madhuranagar Chowk, demanding that the Telangana government acquire the entire village for the Narayanpur reservoir strengthening project.
The villagers, who have been protesting over the issue for some time, took out a rally from Narayanpur to Madhuranagar Chowk before staging a dharna and rasta roko on the Karimnagar–Jagtial National Highway, disrupting traffic briefly.
The protesters said the entire village lives in fear whenever the reservoir reaches full capacity during the monsoon. They objected to the district administration's decision to acquire only 40 houses likely to be affected by the proposed increase in the reservoir bund height, insisting that the entire village should be rehabilitated.
Police later persuaded the protesters to withdraw the agitation, following which they submitted a representation to local officials. Earlier on Saturday, villagers prevented officials from surveying the identified houses, while they had also voiced the same demand during a public hearing held on July 15.
