Namratha Admitted Faking Surrogacy, Says Remand Report

Namratha, son Jayanth accused of cheating couple with unrelated surrogate baby, face trafficking charges

Hyderabad: A local court on Thursday granted five-day police custody of accused Attaluri Namratha, her son Jayanth and others for questioning them in connection with the illegal surrogacy services and for cheating the couple on the pretext of assisting them to get a surrogate child.

The police would take custody of the accused on Friday from the Chanchalguda prison and would shift them to Gopalapuram police station for questioning. The senior police officers would also join in grilling the accused in connection with the case for five days.

According to the remand report filed by the Gopalapuram police, Attaluri Namratha, who ran the Universal Srushti Fertility Centre in Secunderabad illegally — when questioned by a Rajasthani couple about the child being unrelated to them — admitted her centre’s ‘mistake’.

The couple, who have been in Hyderabad since 2024, had visited Universal Srushti Fertility Center in Secunderabad. The couple were told that the doctors will use their sperm and eggs for surrogacy. The baby would be handed over after DNA confirmation by arranging a woman from the clinic and charged over Rs 30 lakh from their service.

However, the doctor used different sperm and eggs for surrogacy. After a woman conceived, she was shifted to Visakhapatnam where the woman delivered a baby boy. Later, Narmadha and other staff handed over the baby to the couple who left for Rajasthan.

After complications in the baby's health, the couple started suspecting Namratha who failed to respond properly. The couple asked the doctor to run DNA tests. Namratha promised to take samples from husband for a DNA test, but she failed to collect them.

As Namratha kept dithering on the DNA tests, the couple got the tests conducted at a DNA forensic lab in Vasant Kunj in Delhi, whose reports indicated that the baby was not biologically connected to the father.

The police further claimed that the couple sent the report to the WhatsApp number of Namratha asking for clarification. After noticing the genuine DNA reports, Namratha blocked the mobile numbers of the couple and started avoiding them over the phone. On June 23, 2025, the couple visited the clinic at Secunderabad and met Namratha.

“Namratha admitted her mistake in handing over the wrong surrogacy child to the parents on pretext of fabricated IVF and surrogacy process. Namratha deliberately cheated the couple by collecting huge amounts from the couple. In the incident, S.S. Jayanth, who also played a key role in threatening the couple at the Secunderabad clinic with dire consequences. Jayanth. He was also involved in silencing clients, through various threats,” the police said.

According to the remand report, the preliminary investigation revealed that Namratha was a habitual offender with several cases pending against in different police stations across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

At the Gopalapuram police station itself, five cases have been filed against her between 2020 and 2023, while five cases are pending in Visakhapatnam and one case in Guntur.

In these cases, she was booked for kidnapping (IPC Section 363), trafficking of persons (Section 370), forgery for the purpose of cheating (Section 468), pretending fake document to be genuine (Section 471)

In two cases registered in the Maharanipeta police station in Visakhapatnam, she was also charged under Section 81 and 87 of Juvenile Justice Act, which deals with the sale and purchase of children. It hints that Namratha has been in the business of illegal child adoption rackets for a long time.
