Nalgonda: Uttam Pushes Canal Upgrades

The government had sanctioned ₹32.48 crore for lining of the Nagarjunasagar left canal, ₹222 crore for the Mukthyala branch canal and ₹53.6 crore for the Janpahad branch canal: Uttam Kumar Reddy

NALGONDA: Irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing irrigation facilities to farmers by modernising existing projects and taking up new lift irrigation schemes.

Speaking after unfurling the National Flag at Telangana Formation Day celebrations organised at Suryapet, he said the government had sanctioned ₹32.48 crore for lining of the Nagarjunasagar left canal, ₹222 crore for the Mukthyala branch canal and ₹53.6 crore for the Janpahad branch canal. Another ₹39.57 crore was sanctioned for repair and lining works of major and minor canals in Kothagudem, and ₹47.90 crore for the Redlakunta major canal. Tenders have been called for the works, he added.

He reminded that ₹75.3 crore had been sanctioned for modernisation of canals under the Musi project, with works worth ₹56.1 crore already completed and the rest under progress. In Suryapet district, ₹266.3 crore was sanctioned for construction of 39 check dams, of which 31 have been completed. He also listed lift irrigation schemes taken up in the district.

Stating that improved irrigation facilities would expand cultivation, he noted that the government had sanctioned ₹126 crore for setting up an agriculture college at Makhdumnagar in Huzurnagar. The college, to be built on 100 acres, will offer BSc. (Agriculture) courses and undertake research.

He announced that a proposal had been sent for a trauma care centre at Suryapet with an outlay of ₹8.5 crore. The government has also sanctioned ₹1.25 crore for a dialysis centre and blood storage unit at the area hospital in Huzurnagar, with works nearing completion. On the occasion, the minister distributed sanction letters of Indiramma houses to selected beneficiaries.

Suryapet district collector Tejas Nandlal Pawar and superintendent of police K. Narsimha also participated in the celebrations.
