Nalgonda Court Awards Death Sentence to Butcher for Raping, Murdering Minor Girl

The court held Mohammed Mukarram, a butcher at a beef shop in Nalgonda, guilty in the case and sentenced him to be hanged by neck till his death for the offence punishable under Section 302 (Murder) of IPC and Section 42 of POCSO Act.

Hyderabad: A local court in Nalgonda district on Thursday delivered death sentence to a 24-year-old butcher for raping and murdering a minor girl in April 2013.

The sentence was pronounced by N. Rojaramani, who is Additional District Judge –II and SC, ST Court Judge in Nalgonda. She is also in full additional charge of the fast track court for POCSO Act cases in the district.

The court held Mohammed Mukarram, a butcher at a beef shop in Nalgonda, guilty in the case and sentenced him to be hanged by neck till his death for the offence punishable under Section 302 (Murder) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 42 of POCSO Act.

The court also imposed a total fine of Rs.1.10 lakh on the accused. Nalgonda Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) K. Shivaram Reddy said that Mukarram, who is a person with speech and hearing impairment, lured the 11-year-old girl into his house while she was selling tea sachets in the town and violated her.

He later strangled her to death with a chuni and dumped the body near Hyderkhanguda nala in the town. The police first booked a missing complaint based on a complaint lodged by the girl’s family members and when the body was found along with the chuni near the nala, the police altered the case to murder and other relevant provisions of POCSO Act.

During the course of investigation, the police identified the accused and sent him to jail.

In the judgement, the court further stated that the fine amount should be paid to the mother of the victim towards compensation for her pain and suffering. The court was of the considered opinion that the victim girl has to be compensated for her suffering both physical and mental.

As such, an amount of Rs.10 lakh was decided as compensation. Therefore, the Secretary, District Legal Service Authority, was directed to take steps for payment of compensation to the mother of the deceased girl at the earliest.

Public Prosecutor Srivani Damodharam told Deccan Chronicle, that crucial evidence collected by the investigators helped in ensuring stern punishment for the accused. As the accused was a person with hearing and speech impairment, a government certified interpreter helped in conveying the sign language of the accused to the court.
