Nagpur–Warangal Highway to Be Completed by December 2027: Komatireddy

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has assured that the Nagpur–Mancherial–Warangal–Khammam–Vijayawada Greenfield Highway will be completed and opened to the public by December 31, 2027, Roads & Buildings and Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said in the Legislative Council.
Responding to questions raised by MLCs Pochampally Srinivas Reddy and Prof. Kodandaram, the Minister said the government would direct the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to provide an exit near Parkal to facilitate public access.
He said the 310-km highway, of which 280 km falls in Telangana, would connect several districts and significantly improve connectivity between Telangana, Nagpur and Vijayawada.
The Mancherial–Warangal stretch was divided into packages, with the Letter of Acceptance issued on March 31, 2023, and the agreement signed on May 23, 2023. Though the project was initially targeted for completion in 730 days, land acquisition issues, court cases and other hurdles delayed the works.
Komatireddy said most land acquisition issues had now been resolved, with only a few stretches remaining. Land handover is pending at one or two locations, including stretches of about 1–1.3 km and 5.7 km.
He said the deadline had been extended to December 31, 2027, and assured that farmers would not be disadvantaged in land acquisition. Compensation would be provided as per market rates, he added.
The Minister said Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari had reviewed the project on May 26 and stressed its importance to Telangana, particularly connectivity to Nagpur.
While land acquisition is the responsibility of the State government, construction is being undertaken under NHAI supervision, with the State acting as the nodal agency and extending full cooperation, he said.
