Nalgonda: Due to heavy flood inflows from upstream areas, the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir has reached near full capacity, prompting authorities to lift the project’s crest gates and release water downstream. This marks the first time in 18 years that the gates have been opened in July month ahead of the usual schedule.
The reservoir’s full level is 590 feet (312.04 TMC), and it currently stands at 586.60 feet.
Speaking at the event, Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy expressed his happiness, saying, “Nagarjuna Sagar is a modern temple for us. Nehru laid the foundation, Indira Gandhi gave it momentum. This project is the lifeline for 26 lakh acres of farmland.”
