Musi Riverfront Development Aims to Restore River's Past Glory

He said that people should co-operate to transform the river in such a manner that they should be able to drink water from it. He quoted the 16th century French traveller Jean-Baptiste Tavernier, who compared the Musi in Hyderabad to the Seine in Paris, likening the bridge across the Puranapul, to the Pont Neuf bridge in the French capital.

Kishore was speaking at the an international urban workshop held at the Dr Marri Chenna Reddy Human Resource Development Institute here.

Thierry Mathou, ambassador of France to India, said that Hyderabad had the potential to serve as a model city, demonstrating coexistence of urban
development and environmental stewardship.

Mathou said: “By integrating nature-based solutions, cutting-edge
technologies, and a strong emphasis on community engagement, we can ensure
that cities like Hyderabad manage their water resources and also thrive in the face of climate change.”

The ambassador said that France was fully committed to supporting
initiatives beyond this workshop, providing resources, expertise and
investment to turn these into tangible, sustainable projects.
