Murder Case Witness Killed in Broad Daylight in Hyderabad

22-year-old Ayan Qureshi was stabbed to death near Nampally court; police detain suspects

Hyderabad: A 22-year-old mutton shop worker, who was returning home after providing evidence before the court in connection with a murder case, was murdered in broad daylight in the Nampally police limits on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Ayan Qureshi of Hafeezbabnagar. Hours after the incident, the Hyderabad police identified the assailants and reportedly detained them.

Nampally Inspector K Narayana Reddy said Qureshi was a witness in a murder case in which his brother-in-law was killed. On Thursday, Qureshi came to the Nampally court as a witness and gave his statement before the court. After the court proceedings were completed, he returned to his residence riding a two-wheeler.

"As the vehicle reached the cancer hospital near the police station, certain unidentified assailants intercepted him and assaulted him with lethal weapons. When he fell on the ground, they attacked him with sickles. The victim died on the spot receiving serious stabbing injuries," the Inspector said.

It was reported that more than seven stabbing injuries were noticed on the body and police were informed by the passerby. Police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to the mortuary for postmortem.

Police recorded eyewitnesses at the spot stating that when they were walking towards the stretch, they noticed a man riding the two-wheeler and he was detained by more than five persons. Later, they assaulted the victim with lethal weapons and sickles. The victim died on the spot," witnesses said.

Police have registered a case of murder, identified some suspects and detained them.
