MP’s Brother, SRH Manager Arvind Yadav Booked as Pub Brawl Leaves 3 Injured in Jubilee Hills
Several suspects were identified as rowdy sheeters from Mallepally.
Hyderabad: A quarrel over tables after the closure deadline triggered a group clash reportedly involving M. Arvind Yadav, the brother of Rajya Sabha member Anil Kumar Yadav, and over 150 persons at the Cara Cara Pub of Daspalla Hotel early on Sunday, Jubilee Hills police said. The clash spilled out on to the streets and lasted for over three hours, leaving three persons injured, two of them grievously.
Arvind Yadav is stated to be the team manager of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He has been booked along with his followers, police said.
The fight reportedly broke out during rush hour when Arvind Yadav reportedly asked two persons sitting at an adjacent table to shift to make space for his supporters. The other customers refused. During this time, the leg of one of the patrons touched Arvind Yadav, This sparked a quarrel between the group led by Arvind Yadav and the other group reportedly led by one Shameem of Nampally.
An official quoting witnesses and from CCTV footage said the groups hurled abuses at each other before using liquor bottles, chairs, tables as weapons. Glass doors, windows and fixtures were smashed by 3 am before the management dialled the police for help.
Police said they had detained over 30 persons for questioning, and that details would be released after investigation. Police took up investigations after registering a suo motu case following a complaint by Jubilee Hills sub-inspector Sandeep Reddy Further action would be taken as per law, police said.
Sources said that the bar, mandated to close by midnight, had stayed open allegedly unlawfully until 3 am. “Despite several appeals, the establishment functions beyond permitted times. The local police are unconcerned while we spend sleepless nights due to weekly nuisance,” complained G. Spandana, a resident along Road No. 37, CBI Colony, Jubilee Hills, where the pub is located.
The pub management reportedly told the police that the bar had closed when a group demanded that alcohol be served. After staff refused service, the group allegedly attacked bouncers at the pub. Several suspects were identified as rowdy sheeters from Mallepally.
“We rushed to the scene and collected CCTV footage from the pub and parking lot to identify and arrest the culprits,” a police officer said. Special teams of Jubilee Hills zone have initiated a search for the accused using technical data. More than 150 individuals were being booked under the Excise Act for violation of timings and liquor sales beyond permitted hours.
Statements of the injured have been recorded, sources said. Police said they would book cases for rioting, unlawful assembly, assault and property destruction after a through investigation.
Meanwhile, BRS leader and former IPS officer R.S. Praveen Kumar posted on his X handle stating: “No one has the guts to file cases, no matter how hard they kick .. Young leaders of Congress are drowning in pubs.” He asked why the FIR has not been released late on Sunday night, tagging DGP C.V. Anand, the Chief Minister’s Office and city police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar. He asked why action had not been taken against the local sub-inspector when the established was running past the deadline and also why the licence fo Cara Cara pub had not been cancelled.
