Motorists Brace for Longer Routes Around KBR Park From Today

Traffic police to guide at key junctions as new system comes into effect

Hyderabad: Motorists and residents travelling through Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Madhapur and surrounding areas are bracing for a major change in traffic movement, as Hyderabad Traffic Police will introduce the continuous one-way system around Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park from August 18.

The diversion is part of traffic management measures linked to the ongoing H-CITI works, which include construction of a steel flyover and an underpass around Jubilee Hills Check Post, KBR Park entrance and Mugdha Junction.

For regular commuters, the biggest concern is the additional distance around the 5.2-km park. Vehicles that earlier took right turns at junctions adjacent to KBR Park must now make longer rides to reach their routes.

“I understand why the police are doing this. Even an extra 10 minutes of driving can make a difference, especially during office hours. But if traffic is managed efficiently, bottlenecks at Jubilee Hills Check Post or LV Prasad Junction can be avoided,” said Rakesh, a two-wheeler motorist.

Another commuter at Journalist Colony said police presence was crucial in the initial days to guide motorists.

Traffic police said extensive arrangements had been made to reduce confusion. “We expect people to face a lot of confusion tomorrow, because it is a new arrangement. We will be standing at almost all the locations and will keep guiding motorists. People should not panic, and hopefully they cooperate with us,” a traffic constable said.

Another motorist said the plan could ultimately help if properly enforced. “The roads around KBR Park get so crowded because traffic comes from different directions and everyone tries to find a gap. If one-way movement is maintained properly, it may actually make traffic smoother,” she said.

Police stressed that motorists should not take U-turns on the one-way stretch, avoid entering from the wrong side and pay attention to signage.
