More MBBS Seats Boost Chances for Telangana Students
KNRUHS urges aspirants to ignore social media misinformation
Hyderabad:KNRUHS Vice Chancellor Dr K. Ramesh Reddy on Tuesday said that local students from Telangana have a better chance of securing admission in medical colleges this year after an increase in MBBS seats in the state. Currently, the state has 9,550 MBBS seats.
The Vice Chancellor also advised students not to believe misinformation circulating on social media regarding admissions, and added that NEET UG 2026 counselling is expected to begin in the first week of August.
The university is preparing to conduct the NEET UG 2026 web counselling, and students have been advised to visit colleges before exercising their web options.
"It is common to hear students say that they did not know much about a particular college before choosing it. I advise students to visit at least three colleges, interact with students and faculty, and understand the infrastructure, hostel facilities and academic environment before exercising their options. They should keep alternative college choices ready," Dr Ramesh Reddy told Deccan Chronicle.
He cautioned students against relying on information shared on social media. "Many posts claim to predict seat allotments, but students should not believe them. Admissions are made strictly according to the counselling protocol, and no institution can allot seats outside the prescribed process," he said.
Dr Ramesh Reddy said the National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to send the NEET UG merit list to KNRUHS shortly. Subsequently, the university will release local ranks this week, followed by certificate and caste verification before commencing web counselling for state quota seats.
Telangana has 9,550 MBBS seats. Out of this, 6,159 seats come under convenor quota, 1,729 under Category B, 781 under Category C (NRI), 625 under All India Quota and 203 under the EWS quota. In addition, 53 seats have been reserved at ESI Medical College, Sanathnagar, for children of insured employees, while seven seats have been reserved at Government Medical College, Ramagundam, for children of Singareni Collieries employees.
This tally excludes 200 seats in Malla Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences, which is a part of Malla Reddy Vishwavidyapeeth, a deemed-to-be university.
The Vice Chancellor also said the mentor system is being strengthened across medical and nursing colleges to curb ragging and improve student welfare.
“Each mentor is assigned a group of students. Principals have been instructed to conduct monthly meetings with mentors and ensure they stay in regular touch with students, provide moral support and address their concerns," he said.
