Month-long Sanitation Drive in 300 Wards of GHMC Begins Today

In a statement released by Karnan, it is stated that from December 29 to January 31, 2026, the sanitation staff of the Corporation will clean flyovers, roads, foot overbridges, dividers and medians, parks and footpaths, lakes and nalas, transformers and electric poles across the new wards. The focus would be on removal of legacy waste and garbage vulnerable points (GVPs)

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is set to take up its most ambitious sanitation drive from December 29.

GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan said this is the first major sanitation drive after the recent Delimitation of wards, forming 300 new wards.

In a statement released by Karnan, it is stated that from December 29 to January 31, 2026, the sanitation staff of the Corporation will clean flyovers, roads, foot overbridges, dividers and medians, parks and footpaths, lakes and nalas, transformers and electric poles across the new wards. The focus would be on removal of legacy waste and garbage vulnerable points (GVPs).

The drive includes removal of debris from construction and demolition sites, green waste management and transforming GVPs into selfie points. Wall paintings, rangoli and plantations will be taken up at GVPs to make the spaces beautiful.

The sanitation staff will promote awareness about cleanliness, e-waste, reusable item collection, waste segregation and composting at schools. Fine will be imposed on those littering in public spaces, illegal dumping and open urinating.

During the month-long sanitiation drive, unclaimed scrap vehicles will be removed, old public toilets will be revamped. The GHMC commissioner directed the officials to submit daily ward-wise reports with supporting photo documentation. The special drive is aimed at making the entire city look clean and beautiful.
