Mixed Bag Results for Top BRS Leaders – Harish, KTR Breathe Easy

The BRS also had its share of other failures in the district in Sadashivpet and Sanagareddy where it had rebel trouble.

Hyderabad: The BRS may not have managed to repeat in the municipal elections its performance in the gram panchayat polls earlier this year, but a few of its leaders, notably working president K.T. Rama Rao and senior leader T. Harish Rao, can take comfort that the party did well in the areas where they had concentrated their campaigns.

Other leaders, such as former ministers G. Jagadish Reddy, and Gangula Kamalakar, among others appeared to have lost bragging rights, at least for now, with people in municipalities they campaigned in, turning their back to these leaders.

Of particular importance for the BRS was how it would do in the former combined Medak district, especially with it hosting party president and former chief minister K.Chandrashekar Rao, Gajwel MLA, and Harish Rao, representing Siddipet in the Assembly. Medak did not give the party a clean sweep that it had hoped for, with the Congress claiming seven out of the 19 municipalities. But, with five clear wins in its kitty, and emerging on top in six others, Harish Rao, and consequently, the BRS, breathed a sigh of relief.

Among the significant wins for the BRS was the Gajwel municipality where after some close calls during the campaigning, and Friday’s counting of votes, the BRS walked away with victory winning 11 of the 20 wards, followed by Congress with seven, and the BJP and an independent with the other two.

The BRS also had clear victories in Dubbak, Cheriyal, Toopran, Gaddapotharam, and Gummadidala, and it hopes that it can get the required support to run the Zaheerabad, Jinnaram, Indresham, Medak, and Isnapur municipalities where it emerged as the single largest party.

The BRS also had its share of other failures in the district in Sadashivpet and Sanagareddy where it had rebel trouble.

Rama Rao, who too had much riding on how the BRS would fare in Siricilla municipality, had everything to be pleased about with his party romping home with 27 seats out of the total 39 with Congress getting six followed by the BJP with five seats and an independent completing the total wins. However, the BRS did not fare as well in Vemulawada, the other municipality in Rajanna-Siricilla district, which was grabbed by the Congress party.

With a high-stakes battle in Karimnagar that was led by Union minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar for the BJP, the BRS led by Kamalakar secured only nine seats of the total 66 relegating it to the fourth spot behind the BJP, Congress, independents and others. In Suryapet, the BRS led by Jagadish Reddy failed to stop the Congress which won 31 of the 48 seats gaining a clear majority, while the BRS had to be satisfied with 13 seats.
