Hyderabad: The Government King Koti Hospital has strongly denied allegations leveled by BRS leader and former minister T. Harish Rao that diagnostic facilities were not provided to students of the minority gurukul school in Bagh Lingampally who were affected by suspected food poisoning.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Dr Santosh Babu, hospital superintendent, said 20 children were admitted to the hospital — others were taken to Niloufer Hospital — with symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea. “Sixteen children were admitted on Friday, while four more were brought in on Saturday morning. They were suffering from vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain,” he said.
Dr Santosh clarified that all required diagnostic tests, including scans, were conducted. “Twelve children were found to be normal and have been discharged. Four children showed signs of mild infection and are under observation. They have been diagnosed with mild gastroenteritis. While vomiting and diarrhea have reduced, some abdominal pain persists,” he explained.
He said the infection could have been caused by contaminated food or water. The superintendent stated that the hospital had two functional ultrasonography machines and one CT scan machine, and all were fully operational during the treatment of the children.
All the admitted children are currently stable and receiving appropriate medical care, hospital doctors said.
